Q. & A. with the Owners
Susan
First collection:
Clowns. I know it’s weird, but I have to admit I adore clowns! When I was a child, my family would head down to the Ben Hur Shrine Circus at the old Austin Coliseum and I actually used to get the clowns’ autographs.
One that got away:
An old jailer’s bench.
Likes:
A good party- both planning and attending!!! After graduating from the University of Texas, I worked as a corporate event coordinator. I thrive off planning, and love creating parties that are both sentimental for those hosting and unforgettable for those attending. Round Top. Rain, hail or shine- I’ll be there- Claudia by my side! Large vintage signs, paintings and folk art. I’m a total sucker for anything vintage Austin! Staying up late with old friends…especially at the Frio, beach or lake. And, of course- my husband, three awesome kids, and the “Mas”!
Dislikes:
Traffic, the last day of a trip & Hatch Chile season (enough already with Hatch Chile everything!)
Claudia
First Collection:
Handkerchiefs. I started collecting them as a little girl when I tagged along with my Mother to estate sales, antiques markets and thrift stores. Each one is unique and handmade.
One that got away:
A piece of art I found in San Antonio when I was a senior at Austin High School. It was an oil painting of a boy holding a rooster. I was going away to college on the East Coast so I passed on it. That
experience taught me a valuable lesson – buy what you love, you will always find a place for the things you have a connection with.
Likes:
Hanging out with my son, coffee in the AM and wine in the PM with my husband, spending time with my crazy family who all live in Austin, coming up with new ideas, going on “picking” adventures with Susan,
great design, uniqueness, laughter, football, old wood and a good back-story.
Dislikes:
Waiting in line for a restaurant, incompetence, rudeness, shabby construction, not doing things right the 1st time, boredom and potty training.
Thank You!
